Note: There is a bug in CA/eTrust PestPatrol which causes instability in a great many products, including PTFB Pro. PestPatrol is apparently included in "AOL Safety & Security Center" (though it may be rebadged).
If you use the most recent version of PestPatrol with "always-on" protection, the workaround for this problem is to add PTFB Pro to its the exclusion list in the registry.
This can be done using a small utility (CA Fix) we've created -
click here for more detailsAlternatively you can do the same thing manually via regedit - just follow the procedure below. DON'T ATTEMPT THIS unless you are proficient at manual registry editing though, and be sure to take a backup of your registry first.
Here are the steps:
1) Open Regedit
2) Navigate to HKLM\Software\ComputerAssociates\ITMRT
3) Locate the values HookExclude and InjectExclude
4) Append the name of PTFBPro's executable, PTFBPro.exe, to both of these values
5) Close regedit and restart
Remember, if you're not running the latest version of PestPatrol with the background scanning active, you do NOT need this procedure or the special CA Fix utility.
