Software to make life easier

More Releases and general progress

April 12th, 2007 by Paul Roberts

Two new releases went out this week, one for PromptPal (1.5.5.1) and one for ColorCache (3.5.3). Both of these are minor releases containing the Vista and Windows Server 2003 DEP fixes I talked about earlier.

There’ll also be a new PTFB Pro release shortly that contains the same fix plus the the ability to specify initial and repeat delays in tenths of a second. That new feature didn’t take long to implement, but I’ve a feeling it’s going to come in really handy for lots of people!

Work is also progressing well on the next major version of LogMeister/EventMeister. We’re implementing most of the requests we’ve had over the last couple of years, and it’s really shaping up. We’re still some months away from a final build though - I’ll be giving more details about this in later posts.

And finally, a few words in praise of VMWare Server. This amazing bit of software lets you create virtual machines running just about any operating system. It needs a pretty powerful machine with plenty of memory and hard disk space (even then things tend to run slowly!) but it’s fantastic if you need to do repeated testing from a “clean” base. I still like to do final testing running directly on separate hardware, but there’s no doubt that VMWare Server is a really useful tool for software developers!
